Night Sky Highlights in February

Here are some of the things to see in February:

  • 9:30 PM, eastern sky – Jupiter rising in the sky just after sunset
  • 4:30 AM, southeastern sky – Mars and Saturn visible above the horizon
  • 6:30 AM, southeastern sky – Venus and Mercury visible near the horizon just before dawn
  • 9 PM, southern sky – Orion constellation with the bright stars Betelgeuse and Rigel, Orion’s Belt and the Orion Nebula (Messier 42) with the Trapezium Cluster, a young open star cluster, embedded within the nebula
  • 9 PM, southern sky – Canis Major with Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, and the bright open cluster Messier 41
